SBMS is pleased to announce David Rowland as the new Musical Director.

Some may recognise David as the trumpet soloist from a concert in May 2023, From the Steppes to Ancient Persia. In that concert he played Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto.

Having enjoyed that concert and working with SBMS, when the role became vacant, he was keen to work with us again.

David first took the baton for SBMS during the first half of last night’s concert, conducting Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, and Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Scherzo and Nocture movements).

We’re very much looking forward to working with David going forward. His next concert leading us will be The Symphony – An Exploration in May.

Sarah has been musical from early childhood, first picking up the recorder aged 4 (she learned on an Early Learning Centre green recorder!). She started playing the violin aged 7, and then the clarinet at aged 10.

She joined SBMS in September 2016 as a violinist in the 2nd violin section, and became section leader in September 2023.

Sarah is the Secretary on the SBMS committee, maintains the website and ticket sales, and leads the marketing for the Society.
